Baptism
Baptism is a meaningful step of obedience that follows a person’s decision to place their faith in Jesus.
Made New in Christ
For thousands of years, followers of Jesus have been being baptized as a way to demonstrate their commitment to Him.
It is the outward expression of an inward change—a public declaration that we now belong to Christ. As we go under the water, we identify with Jesus’ death; as we rise again, we celebrate His resurrection and the new life we have in Him (Romans 6:4).
Baptism does not save us—salvation is a gift of grace received through faith, not something we earn (Ephesians 2:8–9). Still, baptism is deeply meaningful. It paints a vivid picture of the Gospel—the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)—and proclaims that through Him, we are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. - Romans 6:4
An Act of Obedience
Baptism is the first step of obedience for a new believer. Jesus Himself was baptized. And He gave His followers a clear mission: to make disciples and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19–20). Baptism isn’t just a personal decision; it’s part of the calling Jesus gave His Church.
In baptism, we joyfully align ourselves with Christ and step into the ongoing story of the Gospel—a story unfolding across generations as people publicly declare their faith and commit to following Jesus wherever He leads.

As soon as they believe in Jesus! In the Bible, people heard the message of Jesus, placed their faith in Him, and were baptized the very same day.
If you’ve never been baptized since making a personal decision to follow Jesus, there’s no reason to wait. Now is the perfect time to take this step of obedience and publicly declare your faith in Him.
We baptize by immersion because it’s how Jesus was baptized, and because it most fully reflects the biblical picture of burial and resurrection. The Greek word for baptism—baptizo—literally means “to immerse” or “to dip.” It’s a full-body symbol of dying to the old and being raised to new life in Christ.
We’re so grateful for the love and faith your parents expressed in that moment. But Scripture shows us that baptism is a personal decision made by those who have chosen to follow Jesus. If you were baptized as an infant, we invite you to consider being baptized now—not to replace what your parents did, but to complete it with your own faith response.
This moment is about your decision to trust Jesus and follow Him. It’s a meaningful way to honor your spiritual journey and publicly declare that your life now belongs to Christ.
Maybe you were baptized in a different way after placing your faith in Christ, and that moment was significant. We honor that experience and the sincerity behind it.
At Bear Creek, we believe baptism by immersion reflects the example of Jesus and the imagery of being buried and raised with Him. Choosing to be baptized in this way doesn’t diminish your earlier step—it adds to it. It’s a new act of obedience that could be just what someone else needs to see to take their own next step of faith.
