is Is Goodbye: Let Go of the Past That Binds You (Part 3)
Life leaves its marks—painful moments that are hard to move past. But in Philippians 3:13-14, Paul reminds us that our past doesn’t have to define us. In this third part of our "This Is Goodbye" series, we explore how to let go of the things that bind us and step into the future God has prepared.
1. Learn Before You Forget
In Philippians 3:4-8, Paul sees his past as “rubbish” compared to knowing Christ. The key to letting go of the past is learning from it. Instead of letting past experiences control us, we can let them strengthen our faith and draw us closer to God.
2. Heal by Making Decisions
Healing requires intentional choices. Philippians 3:13 tells us to forget the past and press on. This process begins when we choose forgiveness, accept God’s redemption, and move forward in faith. Letting go is an active decision.
Healing Through Forgiveness
Ephesians 2:4 shows us God’s mercy. Just as He forgives us, we must forgive others, releasing bitterness and embracing peace.
Healing Through Redemption
Psalm 103:3-5 speaks of God’s ability to redeem. No matter how broken we feel, His redemption brings renewal. Isaiah 43:18-19 urges us to trust in God’s new work, leaving the past behind.
3. Practice How to Forget
In Philippians 3:13, Paul shows us that forgetting is a choice. It’s not about erasing memories but releasing their hold. To forget means:
Intentional Forgetting: Focusing on God’s promises, not the past.
Laying Aside: Letting go of burdens and regrets (Hebrews 12:1).
Stretching Forward: Actively pursuing God’s calling.
Conclusion: Pressing On Toward the Goal
The past may mark us, but it doesn’t define us. Through God’s grace, we can let go and move toward the future He has planned. Let’s press on and reach for the prize of God’s calling in Christ Jesus.
