Jesus First and Only, Part 2: What is Jesus Worth | Pastor David Welch

What Is Jesus Worth To You?

In a world that measures worth by success, status, and possessions, what is Jesus worth to you? In Philippians 3:7-14, Paul declares that everything he once valued is nothing compared to knowing Christ.

Losing to Gain

Paul had status, education, and influence, but says, “I count everything as loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8). Jesus wasn’t just a priority; He was worth losing everything for.

That’s a challenge. We cling to security, success, and dreams, but Jesus is the treasure worth everything (Matthew 13:44). To make Him first, we must surrender what competes for His place.

A New Identity in ChristWhen Jesus becomes our greatest treasure, He transforms us:

  • Redeeming our past – Our failures no longer define us.

  • Renewing our present – We grow in righteousness and faith.

  • Securing our future – Our eternity is safe in Him.

To be “found in Him” (Philippians 3:9) means embracing a life shaped by Jesus.

Pursuing the One Thing That Matters

Paul didn’t just acknowledge Jesus’ worth—he pursued Him relentlessly. “One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on” (Philippians 3:13-14).

If Jesus is worth more than anything, our focus should be seeking Him daily and living in obedience. When we do, everything else falls into place.
