Updated: Jun 30

Do you have a plan for life?

“but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

2 Peter 3:18 (NASB1995)

“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”

2 Timothy 2:1 (NASB1995)

The Question:

If following Jesus is the core of your life, do you have a plan for how to do it?

Do you have a plan that gives Jesus total access to your inner life, how it will develop over your whole life?

A rule of life

I. What Is A Rule of Life

“but grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ”

2 Peter 3:18 (NASB1995)

“You, therefore my son, grow strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”

2 Timothy 2:1 (NASB1995)

Definition of Grace:

Grace is a power from God growing in us that gives us the capacity to be and do what we can never be or do on our own.

II. Why Do I Need A Rule of Life

5 “By this we know that we are in Him:

6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”

1 John 2:5b-6 (NASB1995)

“And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district.”

Luke 4:14 (NASB1995)

“In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.”

Mark 1:35 (NASB1995)

“But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.”

Luke 5:16 (NASB1995)

“And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.”

Luke 22:39 (NASB1995)

III. What Will A Rule of Life Do In Me

1  “…  in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. “

What will a ‘rule of life’ do?

1. It will de-construct the old rule of life that the world is imprinting on you.

2. It will help you align your life with your best desires

3. It is the tool that transforms your life

Martin Luther said about anyone’s walk with Christ:

“To progress is always to begin always to begin again”

Martin Luther, "Commentary on Romans"

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
