Grow. Strong. (part 2): Choose Your Source, Pastor David Welch

Updated: Jun 16

June 9, 2024

You have to choose the source of your life.

Or life will choose it for you.

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

The Idea:

The ultimate outcome of your life – depends on a single decision: Choosing a source that makes your life strong and makes it flourish.

Making Christ Your Source

I. Commit to Jesus as the Source of Your Life

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.”

John 15:1 (ESV)

II. Learn the Practice of Making Him Your Source

4 “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.

5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. “

John 15:4-5 (ESV)

Abiding Means …

1. To be strongly attached

“Abide in me, and I in you … .”

John 15:4 (ESV)

2.  To be continually fed

“As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.”

John 15:4 (NKJV)

“like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,”

1 Peter 2:2 (NASB1995)

3.  To be deeply available

“… Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit … “

John 15:5 (ESV)

III. Focus Your Heart on the Love and Joy that Flow from Abiding

9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.

10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
