Grow. Strong. (part 1): Misunderstanding Jesus, Pastor David Welch

Updated: Jun 16

June 2, 2024

There’s a chance that you misunderstand Jesus.

“Come, follow Me”

Matthew 4:19, 8:22, 9:9, 16:24, 19:21

The Idea:

I think you may misunderstand Jesus.

And I think you may misunderstand His invitation to you.

And that deeply affects how your life will go.

How to keep from misunderstanding Jesus

1. You Have to Stop Defining Christianity Like an American

“Come, follow Me”

Matthew 4:19 et al.

2. You Have to Start Re-Defining Your Faith as a Follower

“Come, follow Me”

Matthew 4:19 et al.

What does it mean to follow Jesus?

Simple. It means to completely rearrange your life. I’m not exaggerating.

To follow Jesus means to arrange your life around:

  • Being with him

  • Becoming like him

  • Doing as he did

3. You Have to Arrange Your Life Around the Practices of Following

“Come, follow Me”

Matthew 4:19 et al.

6 “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,

7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”

YOU follow Me.

Jesus to Peter in John 21:22

22 “Jesus *said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!”

 John 21:22 (NASB1995)
