“God does not move us beyond the gospel; he moves us more deeply into the gospel, because all of the power we need in order to change and mature comes through the gospel …. The gospel does not simply ignite the Christian life; it is the fuel that keeps Christians going and growing every day. Real change cannot come apart from the gospel.”
1 “Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”
1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 (NASB1995)
The Desire:
I want you to want the gospel to be the center of your life; and for the gospel to be first in the life of your church.
The Gospel First
I. What is the gospel?
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes …”
Romans 1:16 (NASB1995)
II. Why do we vision for the gospel?
“… the gospel which I preached to you … I delivered to you as of first importance …that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day …”
1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 (NASB1995)
2 Reasons We Vision for the Gospel:
1. Because the gospel changes people’s lives in truly incredible ways.
2. Because we are called by God to bring it into our community, to our city, and across the world
“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Mark 16:15 (NASB1995)
“But you are … a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)
III. How do we make an impact for the gospel?
“For God so loved the World that GAVE His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NASB1995)
9 “Honor the Lord from your wealth And from the first of all your produce;
10 So your barns will be filled with plenty … “
Proverbs 3:9-10 (NASB1995)
6 “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-11 (ESV)
