11 “Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:11-13 (NASB1995)
Contentment is having freedom from worry or anxiety about the things in my life that I don’t yet have.
1. Contentment cannot be dependent on my external circumstances.
2. Contentment is a learned behavior.
3. Contentment is a posture of your heart.
13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 (NASB1995)
How do we cultivate contentment in our lives?
A. Express Gratitude
16 “Rejoice always;
17 pray without ceasing;
18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NASB1995)
B. Remember the Scriptures
9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 (NASB1995)
33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Mathew 6:33-34 (NASB1995)
7 “And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7 (NASB1995)
19 “And my God will supply [a]all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19 (NASB1995)
