3 Days to the Cross: The Trials and the Mocking, Pastor David Welch

March 23, 2023

It is just so worth it to let what Christ experienced during His last 72 hours before the Cross wash over your mind and heart and perspective.

53 They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together. 54 Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56 For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent.

The Idea:

These hours one day from the cross – make me look at how I respond to Jesus, His calling to follow Him, and how I see that following. These hours call me to guard how my heart responds to Jesus.

Guarding My Heart Response to Jesus

  1. The Religious Leaders: Anger and Rejection

  2. Pontius Pilate: Skepticism and Irritation

  3. The Soldiers and Others: Mocking for His Weakness

1 "I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.

2 He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD.

4 How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust … "

Psalm 40:1–4 (NASB1995)
