DAY 8
Key Verse:
“And the Lord is the One who is going ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not desert you or abandon you. Do not fear and do not be dismayed.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 NASB
Change is hard in any form. But change is especially hard when relationships are involved. The people of Israel, God’s Chosen, had journeyed for so long with Moses that they relied on him for direction. But Moses knew that his direction came directly from the Lord. And a big change was on the horizon. Because the people were afraid and did not trust that God had a plan and was sending it by way of Moses, they sinned and took matters into their own hands and because of this many of them, along with Moses, wouldn’t be able to enter the promised land God had for them.
Enter Joshua. He was young, idealistic, brave, and fully trusted that God was with them. So, he was charged with leading the people into the promised land. Both he and Moses knew it would be very difficult for many reasons. Him being the new leader instead of Moses for one. But his biggest hurdle was guiding the people to believe in the promises of God again that they so easily forgot.
Years ago, when our family was adopting our daughter from South Korea, we ran into many obstacles that tested our faith and trust in believing that this is what God wanted for our family. There were times when we needed extra funds to pay for all the legal fees and some were unforeseen expenses. Then there were timing delays and more hurdles than first presented to us when we started the process. We were a bit fearful of the process because it continued for an extra year beyond the expected time. All we had was a picture of a little girl that God promised us He would bring to us and so we followed and trusted in the most difficult times.
Heart Prompts
What is one small fear that you can turn over to Jesus right now?
Take a moment and write down this promise of God. Post it in several places you see daily to be reminded of His promises, then find two other promises and do the same.
Pray
Dear Lord, help me to trust and believe in your promises even when I do not see the outcome. Help me to believe you will be with me even in the darkest of times that I will see what you want me to learn during those times. Help me to follow you in the hills and valleys of life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
