DAY 19
Key Verse:
“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and put Me to the test now in this,’ says the Lord of armies, ‘if I do not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.’”
Malachi 3:10 NASB
For many of us, the idea of tithing (or giving 10%) is a tough pill to swallow. The rationalizations and excuses enter our minds. We think we are not able and that we cannot afford to do so. However, if we truly sit down and look at where our money is going, it may be easier than we ever thought possible.
Too many times, our giving to the Lord is the last on a long list of expenses. After our mortgage, car payments, insurance, food, etc., we see what is left and decide what we are able to give. Have you sat down lately, though, and really added up what is being spent on eating out? What about streaming services and other luxuries? What if we took a radical view at our budget and took the tithe out first? What if we tithed, then started down the list of expenses? At the end, that is what we used for those extra amenities and comforts.
God promises that if we tithe first, if we give back to Him what is already His, that He will bless us. That does not necessarily mean financially. It’s easy to misinterpret this verse and t. k that tithing will result in an abundance of riches. It does mean that he will provide for our needs. He will bless us in ways that we cannot even imagine. If we are faithful in this act, He promises that we will not be lacking in all that we need. Take that leap of faith and see how He blesses you mightily when you are faithful.
Heart Prompts
What is preventing you from tithing today?
What are “extras” that could be cut from your monthly spending?
Do you believe his promise of blessings when you tithe?
Pray
Dear Lord, help me to trust in you and know that you will provide for my needs. Help me take a hard look at my expenses and make the radical change to give back to you first. I want to give you what is already yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
