First Devotional, Day 13: Confidence in Christ

February 21, 2024

DAY 13

Key Verse:

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

Galatians 2:20 NASB

In Paul’s letter to his fellow believers in Galatia, he was letting them know that the sin-directed person he previously had been was gone. That person was crucified with Christ. Sin would no longer control him. Paul was now the person Christ charged him to be as he proclaimed that “Christ lives in me” and “I live by faith in the Son of God.”

This is true for all believers. Paul’s confidence in Christ is also our confidence in Christ today. So, you, like Paul, can identify with Christ in his death and put an end to the person that sin makes of you and can become the person that Christ makes of you. You no longer are controlled by your flesh but are free to live by faith in the One who loved you first and gave himself for you.

Living by faith means that you have continual confidence that Christ has provided you with the example of how to live and will give you the strength to live in His image. The rule in the believer’s life is not the law but is the Son of God. You are freed from the law and from the ruling power of sin. You can give up your own efforts of struggling and striving to please God. You now have Christ producing His character in you. My fellow believer, you will have victory in life when you simply have faith and trust Christ to live through you.

Heart Prompts

  1. Have you turned your life over to Christ?

  2. What evidence of Christ living in you does your life show?

  3. What are some ways that you can demonstrate that you live by faith?

Pray

Dear Lord, thank you for loving me and sacrificing yourself for me. Help me to increase my faith and trust in you every day. I ask that you increase your desires, qualities, character, and strength within me so that those around me will see only you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
