First Devotional, Day 10: The Goodness of God

February 16, 2024

DAY 10

Key Verse:

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Romans 8:28 NASB

What a comforting promise from God that no matter what, He can work out our situation for good. He does not promise sometimes. He promises all the time. He does not promise He will work out a few things. He promises all things.

All things mean just that. It means your successes and your failures. It means your good choices and even your bad choices. It means whether something happened to you or because of you, in highs and in lows, that God is working things out for your good. Whatever God is working in your life, it is ultimately what is best for you.

Two important things to take away from this verse. First, He is always looking at the big picture. Our definition of “good” does not always line up with God’s. Sometimes the way things work out is not at all what we had in mind. Things on this side of Heaven do not always seem as though they are good or blessings. We must keep in mind that God keeps an eternal perspective. He is not just looking at the here and now, and we must try and keep that same mindset.

Second, this promise is for those that love God and are called to His purpose. That means someone does not have the right to do whatever he or she wants and claim that God must work out the situation. His promise is for those that love Him. So, take comfort in knowing that if you truly love God, that He will work things out for your well-being.

Heart Prompts

  1. How does this verse give you comfort that all things will work for good?

  2. Do you accept that good does not always mean what we had in mind for our lives?

Pray

Dear Lord, help me to trust that you are working for my benefit. Remind me to have an eternal perspective and know that you are working all things for good, no matter how it may look. Allow me to take comfort in this promise, no matter the circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
