"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
The promise of the Lord for the coming Messiah was designed to be unmistakable. A man born of a virgin would be unique and would mark the child as set apart for the Lord. Specifically, the prophecy gave this child the name of “Immanuel” which means “God with us”. This prophecy of “God with us” is a constant reminder that we did not need to ascend to God, but that God loved us enough to come to us. The promise of God coming to His people leaves us the greatest hope we could possibly have. In the person of Jesus Christ, Immanuel fulfilled, we have the ultimate hope for humanity. We should look to the fulfilled prophecy of the son being born of the virgin being fulfilled as a sign of hope in all the promises of God. This promise that is humanly impossible was fulfilled by God, then any promise of God will be kept. We serve a faithful God!
Lord, you are faithful even when I am faithless. Help me to hope in your word and trust you completely. Let your word guide my heart to salvation in Christ and to grow in righteousness. Give me confidence in all you have promised to do.
