"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."
As Christ begins his discourse at the Last Supper, he tells the 12 apostles of the imminent coming of the Holy Spirit. This statement about the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives is linked to his next statement about leaving His peace with us. Christ was telling them that having the Holy Spirit would actually be BETTER than having him with them in the flesh. Sending the Holy Spirit is Christ giving His peace to us. God dwelling within us as the Holy Spirit is designed to bring peace in our lives because of the Holy Spirit’s function. Specifically, the Holy Spirit teaching us all things and reminding us of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit aids us in living out God’s Word in our lives, convicting us of sin and leading us in truth. When we live our lives in the will of God, a by-product is that we will have His peace.
Lord, make me sensitive to your Spirit’s working in my life! Teach me to obey all that you have said and convict me of my sin when I live outside of your will. Lead me in your truth.
