And behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a Son of Man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom shall not be destroyed.
For his entire adult life, the prophet Daniel served kings in royal courts; first in the kingdom of Judah, then in the Babylonian Empire, and finally in the great Persian Empire. Daniel personally knew kings and emperors. On several occasions God graciously gave Daniel dreams or visions of future events along with their interpretation. In one vision, Daniel was allowed to see into the future in the throne room of God in heaven. Daniel witnessed the installation of the greatest king ever over the greatest kingdom ever. But who is this king? “Son of Man” is a title that Jesus used for Himself. So, it is Jesus to whom the Father will give absolute ruling authority and glory over the kingdom. This kingdom will be greater than all previous kingdoms and empires combined because all peoples, nations, and languages will serve Jesus, the greatest king of all time. All other kingdoms and empires lasted for a time but then ceased to exist. But Jesus’ lordship will never end, and His kingdom will never be destroyed. The accession of Jesus to His kingdom’s royal throne takes place when He has defeated all godless rulers and their kingdoms on the earth and brings ultimate and everlasting peace. What God allowed Daniel to witness in the vision is certain to happen. The King Is Coming!
Father, thank you that you will not leave mankind under the authority of evil men, but will by your grace allow us to live forever under the lovingkindness of your Son, Jesus. And thank you that we can know that you will accomplish this according to your good will and in your perfect timing.
