Advent Devotional: King of Hope

December 4, 2024

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war … And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

As believers, we will see Jesus when He comes again “in the clouds” to “raise us up that we might live before Him,” and He will hide us in heaven “for a little while until the fury has passed by,” because our loving Father will pour out His wrath on all “the inhabitants of the earth” throughout the seven years of the Tribulation that will then follow (1 Thessalonians 4:17 NASB1995; Hosea 6:2 NASB1995; Isaiah 26:20-21 NASB1995).

But when our Lord Jesus triumphantly comes back to this earth to win the final battle, the Battle of Armageddon, then “every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him,” and all who will have refused the Father’s saving grace to repent of their sins will be swept away in His righteous justice (Revelation 1:7 NASB1995)

Then, we will reign with Christ as “He will rule them with a rod of iron,” because during His millennial reign here on this earth, the children born to any new Christians who will have just been saved during the Tribulation, but not martyred, are the children over whom we will reign. As they grow up to “know enough to refuse evil and choose good,” they must repent of their sin and “commit /their/way” of living to obediently follow Jesus as Lord, before “the age of one hundred” (Isaiah 7:16; 65:20 NASB1995; Psalm 37:5 NASB1995).

Therefore, let’s commit our hearts afresh to be the faithful obedient soul winners that God redeemed us to be, leading lost souls to salvation, so they will not have to go through the terrible seven-year Tribulation.

As Christians, we are joint heirs with Jesus, adopted into the family of the King of kings and Lord of lords”! (Revelation 19:16 NASB1995) So let’s celebrate our glorious inheritance this Christmas season, praising our Triune Lord for His amazing saving grace that empowers us to victoriously defeat our sin!

Thank You Lord for the prophetic promises of Your Word about our glorious future! Help us strive to increasingly grow in “moral excellence,” letting our light shine as Your blazing holy people, redeemed to change this world by Your victorious power, always celebrating Your holiness! (2 Peter 1:5 NASB1995)
