And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called Holy - The Son of God."
The hope of the world comes through the fulfilled prophecy of a virgin birth by way of this young woman Mary. Even Mary struggled to believe what was going to happen and she was being told by an angel. When the Lord makes his promises, we often find ourselves disbelieving it will happen. When we place what God can do in our own box of what we believe is possible, we are actually disbelieving God and rejecting His Word. The promise of God to bring the Messiah by way of a virgin, and then following through by bringing the Messiah through the woman Mary should increase our faith and deepen our willingness to read and obey God’s Word.
Lord, give me a love for your word that increases my hope in you. Show me how you have been faithful to fulfill your promises over time to strengthen my faith.
